5 tips for parents of young children – how to make wool last longer

Lanullva 5 tips til småbarnsforeldre – slik får du ulla til å vare lengre

Toddlers' lives are full of play and adventure – a life that goes well with wool on the body. And with our unique knitting method, you get wool that not only warms well, but also breathes and regulates body heat. Wool is an investment, and if you treat it well, it can easily be passed down through generations.

Here are our 5 best tips for taking care of your wool clothes – and making your wardrobe more sustainable .

1. Wash less – air more

Our wool contains a lot of lanolin and is naturally self-cleaning and therefore rarely needs frequent washing. It is often enough to hang the garment out to air, preferably in damp weather. This refreshes the wool and removes odors completely without the washing machine.

If it needs to be washed, you should follow gentle methods. See our complete guide to washing wool clothes here.

2. Dry properly
After washing, if it is a thicker wool garment, it may be a good idea to roll the garment in a towel and squeeze out the water gently. Then lay it flat to dry, preferably on a drying rack. Never hang wet wool – it can stretch and lose its shape. No one wants a sweater to end up looking like a dress.

3. Store wool properly
When woolen clothes are not in use, they should be stored in a dry and dark place – preferably in airy fabric bags. Avoid plastic bags, as they can retain moisture and odors. Consider placing lavender sachets or cedar balls with the clothes to protect them from moths.

4. Repair rather than throw away
A small hole or a frayed edge doesn't mean the garment has to be thrown away. Many minor damages can be easily sewn up – and with a few simple stitches you can give wool a new lease of life.

If you have larger needs, we also have a separate repair department here that will be happy to help you.

5. Freeze away bad odors
If your wool garment has an odor that you can't get rid of by airing it out – try the freezer! Place the garment in a sealed bag and freeze it for a day. This kills bacteria and freshens the garment without washing.

Take care of wool – and let it be passed down through generations
Wool is an investment in children's comfort – and with good care, it lasts from child to child.
