Felix Baldauf

Lanullva Felix Baldauf

We have partnered with Norway's best wrestler, who also took the title of European Champion in 2017. But who is he?

Felix Baldauf started wrestling already as a 9-year-old in the local Kristiansund club IL Braatt - which he still represents to this day.

After completing upper secondary school in Kristiansund, he faced a choice between wrestling or education. He chose to bet everything on one card. The day after the last day of school, he headed for Oslo to train with the Norwegian national wrestling team.

In the first years he was on the U21/U23 national team and collected medals in both the European Championship and the World Cup. The highlight of his career so far came in 2017, when he became the first and youngest Norwegian on the men's side to win the EC for seniors at the age of 25. It led to 2nd place in the world rankings and his career seemed to be on track.

But, for the next 5 years, Felix was haunted by an injury nightmare like no other, and trained much less than what was required to be one of the best. His body went on strike and he was out between 4 and 6 months a total of 4 times during that period.

In the autumn of 2021, after a long examination, he was diagnosed with Bekhterev's disease. After the correct medication, he noticed a difference in both his body and head, and with a rapid improvement in his quality of life. In the last six months, he has managed to deliver results at a level he has not been at since he won the EC 5 years ago, and he is far from finished. The main goal in the next few years is the WC in 2022, and the Olympics in Paris 2024 - which will be the absolute highlight of his career.

When training and the wrestling mat do not completely occupy his time, by far his greatest love is fishing. No matter how tough defeats he has had purely sportingly, fishing has always made him relax and forget everything. Preferably combined with beautiful nature and accommodation outside.

It is during these trips that he swears by Lanullva merino wool. Active walks in the wilderness provide a varied body temperature, but with Havbris wool underwear close to the skin, he avoids getting cold regardless of the intensity - even if the wool garment is damp. One Hustadvika wool sweater or the most the robust wool jumper from Eilif in the rucksack he prepares for several days out on a trip, and warms well through the night.

The woolen clothing is also very functional during training outdoors, and especially after training. A drenched shirt is replaced with a dry one  Basic jersey , and ensures that he avoids illness.

Felix is certainly not on the lazy side when he is neither exercising nor fishing. Studies in Sport Management at the Norwegian Sports Academy also take up a lot of time. The intention is to make a difference for athletes when their careers are finally shelved, and to use the experience to make both everyday life and ventures better for young athletes.

Since 2021, NRK has followed the wrestling gang closely and step by step through the documentary series "Hodet i klemme". Season 2 is filming now, and will arrive in February 2023.

We cheer for Felix and the rest of the wrestling team, and look forward to seeing more of Felix in the future!
